I think everyone should have an impromptu "no spend" challenge at least once!
Here's why:
- It's an easy way to save a few $$$ over the course of a week or two. Instead of putting that money towards more "stuff", you could put it towards savings, or an important goal you'd like to reach.
- It helps you to use up whatever food, supplies, giftcards, free passes, etc.. that you have on hand.
- It raises awareness of how much "stuff" we really have & raises our gratitude level.
- You don't don't have time to "prepare". So no "pre-buying" enough gas, enough food, etc.. to last throughout the no-spend challenge, where you end up spending $$ anyways!
- It forces you to be creative in order to have fun! Try new recipes, dig out old movies, books, board games, call family & family, spend more time on your hobbies, etc...
- You focus on what's important. Friends, family, & yourself!
- Keeps you away from unnecessary spending & shopping trips for those "little last minute items".
- It's good for your mind, body, & soul. You can take time to enjoy the "simple things" in life.
- We're SO used to buying this, & grabbing that, that a lot of times it just becomes second nature. There's no thinking involved.
- You set a good example for your kids who watch every little thing you do & learn their good (and bad!) money habits from YOU!
- Your set a good example to friends who may be in struggling but haven't curbed their spending habits & don't know how to tell themselves "no".
- When you're not spending, you can spend time being productive! Has your closet needed cleaned out forever? Kitchen decluttered? Kids toys overhauled? Now is the time to do it!
- Causes you to ask yourself, "Do I *really* need this?"
- You can renew that "old" library card again and take advantage of all the great (and free!!) services that your local library offers!
- Think out of the box! Feel like going out for a night on the town but don't want to spend money? Act like a "tourist" in your own city! Find out which museums, park activities, clubs, live theaters, etc.. offer free admission!
Have you ever participated in an impromptu no-spend challenge? If so, did you enjoy it & save money? If not, would you participate in an impromptu no-spend challenge??
